1940's Television: An episode of "Howdy Doody" from the 3rd of August, 1949. This episode features many of the aspects which made the show one of early TV's biggest hits, and even contains original NBC Network IDs. Overall, an unusual example of children's TV from the era when what worked and what didn't was still being worked out.

Simple & unpretentious early television series, starring Morey Amsterdam and broadcast on the DuMont Network. Also appearing in this episode are Art Carney, singer Vic Damone, Jacqueline Susann (in an acting role) and dancers Mary Raye and Naldi. Despite what the review says there is only a single commercial, which runs about 2 minutes, and a couple of brief mentions of the sponsor elsewhere. (Note: the series previously aired on CBS. This is the first DuMont-aired episode)

A 1949 Public Service Announcement aired on the DuMont Television Network, reminding the young viewers of "Captain Video" that "freedom is everybody's job". This features the same background as the 1950 PSA I uploaded. DuMont was a cheap network, but in fact, they did a lot of good things, like airing the complete McCathy hearings (sadly no footage remains from their coverage). One must give them credit for good intentions.

Rare 1949 episode of the TV series "Captain Video and His Video Rangers". The show is about a "Space Captain" and his "Video Ranger" who must the galaxy from the evil Dr. Pauli. . The show was live, which would explain the missed cues. Most episodes are presumed lost. The series was never liked by TV critics, though proved popular with children. Later seasons had improved writing. However, as corny as the show was, it did prove influential on later series....

A 1949 DuMont Television Network-Public Service Announcement, Number 2 of 2. This PSA tells the young viewers of "Captain Video" to give everybody a fair chance, regardless of Race or Religion. DuMont was a cheap network, but they did a lot for many people. DuMont, in fact, aired the complete McCarthy hearings (sadly no copies of their coverage survives today).
